Blackjack, Complete Rules & How To Play Online
There’s no clear consensus as to the provenance of the game of blackjack, which is the world’s most popular gambling game. The pundits’ views on the question generally cite Spain, Italy, and France; even back in time to ancient Rome where there was always a ‘flutter’ of some sort involving wooden blocks in daily routine.
The game is also identified by other written and spoken monikers such as 21; twenty-one, vingt-et-un, and less formally in Britain – pontoon. Blackjack is the world’s most popular card gambling game.
The Aim of the Game of Blackjack
One’s primary aim is to win cash. But you knew that! Winning involves playing against ‘house odds’ in the long term but can result in spectacular short-term increases in fortune with Lady Luck sitting next to you. Blackjack and baccarat are generally accepted as having the best casino odds, with blackjack known as being a real game of skill.
As in most games of chance, there are variants, with different nuances in both physical (offline) and mobile blackjack (online) according to the provider. Please check out some of our game venues to check specifics. But in essence, the objective of the game of blackjack is to amass as near to twenty-one points as possible in your hand, without breaking it by going over that limit. Cards are valued as follows:-
- The ‘Royal’ cards (King, Queen, Jack ) – 10 points
- Aces – 1 OR 11 points
- Cards 2 to 10 – face value; e.g. a 6 is worth 6 points; an 8 is worth 8 points etc.
You don’t compete with other players – the dealer is your only adversary. The game starts with players at the table each placing a bet. The amount of this initial bet is entirely up to you and your blackjack strategy. As the game unfolds, you are able to augment your wager according to the way the cards appear. As your knowledge and experience build, you’ll start to form your own strategies – ways of playing which maximise wins and minimise losses – especially losses incurred by beginners who make the inevitable ‘newbie’ mistakes.
Upon the placing and acceptance of players’ bets, the house dealer places two cards with their faces visible, to each of the players in turn, from the dealer’s left to his right. However the dealer, who also has two cards, only shows one – the other is not revealed. If the dealer has an immediate blackjack hand (the odds of which are small), he declares it and the game is over. Thus the dealer (house) wins. However, if a player also has a blackjack hand, the result for that player is a ‘tie’ or ‘push’ and no money is lost or paid out.
Having observed the dealer’s hand and your own, you may hit; stand, double or insure. These terms and others are explained further at our mobile blackjack venues here, which have been carefully curated by us to offer the best online gambling experience. There are also in-depth elaborations on gameplay and strategies on this site, so do explore our site links where all your questions may be covered.
Tip: It is not possible to ‘bust’ (exceed 21 points) on your two pocket cards. After all bets have been placed, the dealer’s next move is to show his or her cards to all at the table. You’re a winner if the total points value of your hand exceeds that of the dealer. Playing multiple hands? Each hand is compared to the dealer’s and the same rules apply. Dealer busts? You’re a winner!
Mobile Online Blackjack
Isn’t it amazing what you can do with your mobile! Games are a staple distraction along with the ever-pervasive social media platforms. The market for games of chance is burgeoning – such games are popular because they operate in a safe and trusted environment. We know this, as all our offerings are very carefully checked and we operate under strict regulatory guidelines. We are also in compliance with all UK legislation. Before you sign up to any provider of online gambling, make sure to acquaint yourself with any compliancy and bank/card policies.
One of the attractions of online blackjack is that the pace is steady and the house odds are fair. Don’t get disheartened if you’re playing sensibly but are not winning straight out of the gate. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but I’d suggest that a lot of it was probably built on the strength of the ancient Romans’ propensity for games of chance. A few denarii here – a few sestertii there, and all contributing to the general economy of the day. There was no Facebook or YouTube – what on earth was there to do?!
Mobile casinos are not always applications (apps) which you have to download. Most of the major blackjack mobile gambling sites are just that: full-blown websites that are designed to be ‘responsive’ and adapt to the device being used to access them. You’ll have come across a ‘responsive’ site when you’ve seen some of your favourite desktop sites interpreted cleverly for your mobile. Responsive design is exhibited by how web pages detect the user’s screen size and orientation and present the best possible experience.
Different sites have different rules of play. They also offer a wide variety of bonuses and sign-up incentives. Make sure you explore our offerings and decide which provider is best for you. Here are some of the exciting deals – some may be combined:-
- Sign-up bonuses
- Referral bonuses
- ‘Welcome’ packages
- Free games
- Deposit-based bonuses

Online gambling is designed to be fun – exhilarating and nail-biting! It starts not to be quite so much fun if you overextend yourself. Only gamble with what you are ‘comfortable’ with losing. If you’re winning, set an amount in your head with which you’re prepared to leave the table and walk away with, accompanied by a huge grin on your face and have that grimacing image of your spouse’s/partner’s or bank manager’s chagrin wiped from memory.
Most of all – have fun. Fun is what it’s all about – not misery!
